Thunderstorms possible during Air and Water show

CHICAGO (Sun-Times Media Wire) -

The Chicago Air and Water Show could be dampened by showers or thunderstorms this weekend, forecasters said.

The National Weather Service is predicting a 30 percent chance of showers or storms late Saturday afternoon, likely starting about 4 p.m. and lasting through Saturday night, according to NWS meteorologist Kevin Birk.

There's also a chance of rain Sunday afternoon after about 1 p.m., Birk said.

However, the slow-moving storm system that's moving through the area this weekend is expected to mostly stay to the south of the city, and the downtown area could stay dry for the duration of the show, Birk said.

Highs on Saturday are expected to be in the low 80s, while cool winds off the lake Sunday should keep temperatures in the 70s, Birk said.

The Air and Water Show will run from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday at North Avenue Beach.
