Police: Detroit man made up story of shooting home invader

Posted: Updated:
CITY OF DETROIT -

A Detroit man in a blue shirt who told police he shot an intruder on Thursday is named Domino. What happened afterward could be called the "Domino effect."

Detroit Police are now saying the shooting of a suspected intruder at a home in Detroit did not happen Thursday afternoon. They say the homeowner made up the situation.

Police had earlier said a band of people tried breaking into a home in the 17,000 block of Goddard Avenue, and that the homeowner opened fire and struck one of the suspects..

Detroit Police responded in force blocking streets with squad cars, evacuating families and sending in the special response team.

After more than two hours and a conversation with Domino, the  homeowner has been taken for a psychiatric evaluation, said Chief James Craig.

Craig said that there was no evidence of a shooting or any suspects at the scene.

Craig said he would do it all over again, praising his department's response to the situation.

"When we start evaluating callers and say I'm not sure this is a valid call, (reporters) will be asking me, 'Chief, why didn't you go,'" he said. "We will always go."

Neighbors hope the homeowner gets the help he needs, adding that he's been known to help others in the community.
