Driver flees Elgin-O'Hare expressway crash that injured 2

SCHAUMBURG, Ill. (Sun-Times Media Wire) -

Two people were injured in a crash that slowed traffic on the Elgin-O'Hare Expressway during Thursday's morning commute.

The two-vehicle crash happened about 4 a.m. in the westbound lanes on the expressway at Irving Park Road, according to Illinois State Police.

Police said a passenger vehicle hit a construction vehicle, leaving one construction worker with non-life threatening injuries. A passenger in the vehicle was left with serious injuries.

Officials say the driver of the car left the scene of the accident. The driver has been identified and police continue to look for that person.

The right should was open to traffic, while the left lane remained blocked, police said.
