Customer charged for wrong water account reimbursed

City hall wrote an Atlanta homeowner a refund check after she made a claim that she got the wrong water bill for five years.

Tiffany Mitchell lives in a duplex on the northwest side of Atlanta. She says she discovered the problem after her bill climbed to more than two-thousand dollars over the past three months.

Mitchell called her plumber who did some tests. The plumber discovered city hall had crossed the addresses on the side-by-side properties.

Mitchell says her family is half the size of the one next door. So she thinks the neighbor has been using substantially more water which she has been paying for.

The Atlanta Water Department admitted the error.

Mitchell brought the plumber's worksheet to city officials and they went back five years and gave her a reimbursement for the difference, almost $2,000 from the city's water account.
