Novelty Golf and Games: A nostalgic Mecca of retro fun

CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -

Nostalgia is a powerful thing. It’s often hard to realize how good the good ol’ days are until they’re already gone. From time to time, we all yearn to step back into that favorite childhood memory.

But in Lincolnwood, you actually can.

You don’t stay in business for 65 years without defining a few childhoods. Welcome to Novelty Golf and Games.

Family owned and operated for four generations, Novelty Golf and Games is more than a life’s work to owner Craig Klatzco – it’s a reminder of everything his Grandmother Rose started 65 years ago.

A nostalgic Mecca of retro fun, it is the only remaining miniature golf course in that area has survived everything from tornadoes to Father Time, and is now a gift passed down from one generation to another.

While the faces may change, one of the reasons this place has remained successful is that they haven’t.

Whether you’re sinking a hole-in-one at Sue the toothless dinosaur, hitting a home run at the batting cages or grabbing a bite at the Bunny Hutch, Novelty Golf and Games has figured out the key to success: "If it ain't broke, don’t fix it."

Still, 65 years of history can only fight so hard against the distractions of modern technology. 65 years buys a lot of memories, not just for Craig Klatzco, but for all of us.

A time machine to a simpler era, this place is a nostalgic reminder of life once was, and can be again.

Who knows? Maybe the good ol’ days aren’t over after all.
