The Tigers acquired star pitcher David Price from the Tampa Bay Rays in a three-team trade which sent pitcher Drew Smyly and prospect infielder Willy Adames to Tampa and centerfielder Austin Jackson to the Seattle Mariners.

Price, 28, has compiled a 11-8 record, 3.11 ERA and 189 strikeouts in 23 starts with the Rays this season.

Say whatever you want about this deal, one thing seems clear: The Tigers want to win now. The deal gives the Tigers a rotation with the last three A.L. Cy Young winners: Justin Verlander (2011), Price (2012) and Max Scherzer (2013).

Rajai Davis jogged on to the field and replaced Jackson in the top of the seventh inning in an emotional scene, as it was clear that Jackson had just been traded. Jackson left the diamond to a standing ovation and hugged all of his teammates in the dugout.

Davis was the quick fix replacement for Jackson today, and the Tigers have also brought up outfielder Ezequiel Carrera from Triple-A Toledo. Carrera has hit .307 and has stolen 43 bases for the Mud Hens, team and league high numbers, respectively.

Though the trade does not directly solve the Tigers' bullpen woes, Price has pitched seven innings or more in each of his last nine starts.
