CHICAGO (Sun-Times Media Wire) -

A South Side man was ordered held on $300,000 bond Saturday, after he allegedly sexually assaulted a 12-year-old girl that he met at a Lowe’s home improvement store while he was working as a stock clerk.

Roy Burrell, 28, faces one count of predatory criminal sexual assault, a Class X felony, according to a statement from the Cook County State’s Attorney’s office.

Burrell, of the 1000 block of East 71st Street, was working at a Lowe’s store in Chicago when he spotted the girl and her mother shopping, prosecutors said. He attempted to say hello the girl, then followed her to the bathroom, where he talked to her, kissed her and gave her a piece of paper with his phone number written on it.

On July 21, Burrell met the girl on a corner near her grandmother’s home and the pair took public transit to an apartment building where he got a vehicle, prosecutors said.

He drove the girl around and sexually assaulted her multiple times in the back seat of the vehicle, prosecutors said. He also drove to a liquor store and bought the girl and himself alcohol, before he dropped her off near her grandmother’s home.

About 12:30 a.m. July 22, the girl’s mother found her daughter “extremely disoriented” lying in a concrete courtyard with the smell of alcohol on her breath, prosecutors said. The girl was taken to Roseland Community Hospital, where a rape kit was done.

Burrell was arrested July 24 and appeared in court Saturday where Judge James Brown ordered him held on $300,000 bond, prosecutors said.
