WEATHER TIMELINE: Excessive heat, storms Monday

Posted: Updated:
EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn. (KMSP) -

Anyone who was outside over the weekend knows the thermometer has been rising, but Monday will bring dangerously hot temperatures to the metro area and a chance of severe storms.

WHAT TO LOOK FOR

Excessive heat and humidity: Heat indexes are expected to range from 100 to 110 across Minnesota, and 95 to 100 across Wisconsin.

Severe thunderstorms: Humid air will create storm-brewing conditions in the afternoon and evening, and high winds are expected to be the main threat.

WEATHER TIMELINE

Monday morning: An excessive heat warning will take effect at 11 a.m. as high temperatures in the low 90s with dew points in the low 70s will push the heat index readings into the triple digits.

Monday afternoon: Severe thunderstorms will begin to form in the western portion of the state, and should track down Interstate 94 toward the metro.

Monday night: Waves of thunderstorms will march into the metro area  after 11 p.m.
