EVANSTON, Ill. (Sun-Times Media Wire) -

A Chicago man is facing weapons charges after police found a gun and body armor in his vehicle during a traffic stop in north suburban Evanston on Thursday.

Steven L. Hamann, 26, faces five felony counts of aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, according to Evanston police.

During a traffic stop about 6:20 p.m. in the 2400 block of Church Street, an officer “established probable cause” to search Hamann’s vehicle and found a loaded .45 caliber semi-automatic handgun, a face mask, ballistic body armor and a small amount of cannabis, a statement from police said.

Hamann, of the 1400 block of West Lunt Avenue, was also charged with misdemeanor counts of unlawful use of a weapon, possession of a firearm without a valid FOID card, and possession of cannabis, police said.

Bond information was not immediately available.
