Sources: officials considering replacing Douglasville police chief

Posted: Updated:
DOUGLASVILLE, Ga. -

More than a dozen Douglasville police officers have quit, or are on leave, and many are questioning the reason why.

According to Police Chief Chris Womack, many officers have been unhappy with their pay and have left the city to work elsewhere, but other city officials say the pay is probably not the issue.

Councilman Mike Miller says officers are worried the chief will be asked to resign and says there is a problem with the city offering competitive pay.

“We are losing officers,” said Miller. “We have government entities competing with us.”

The mayor says he won’t comment on anything about the chief or any personnel, but does not believe low pay is what’s causing officers to leave.
