MINNEAPOLIS (KMSP) -

When the gates opened at Target Field for the All-Star Game on Tuesday, fans both young and old rushed in to soak up every moment of the action -- and they left with memories that will last a lifetime, including Twins pitcher Glen Perkins closing out the game. VIEW PHOTOS

A sell-out crowd of more than 41,000 packed the relatively new baseball cathedral the Minnesota Twins call home, and they were treated to everything that makes America's favorite pastime a spectacle -- including an epic flyover from the Thunderbirds

"That was awesome -- gives you the chills," Myron Moser said. "Amazing. Timed so perfectly."

No one who is at the game will forget saying goodbye to a legend -- Yankees captain Derek Jeter, who walked away from his final All-Star game with a couple of hits.

Jack Almquist, 77, was at the 1965 midsummer classic at Metropolitan Stadium, and he was marveling at how much the game -- and coverage of it -- has changed since. Cameras and portable studios are everywhere, with production and broadcast trucks taking over an entire stadium parking lot.

Fox Sports One gave Fox 9 a behind-the-scenes look at the modern technology that allows fans to catch all the action across the globe, including in Japan. Tomo Miyazawa reports for an all-sports network based in Tokyo, and she said she'll never forget her All-Star experience in Minneapolis.

"I shook hands with Derek Jeter," she said. "I can't wash this hand!"

To cap it off, Twins pitcher Glen Perkins became the first ever-host city closer in any All-Star Game, and according to Perkins, that's "about as good as it gets."
