UIC notifies ex-students of information breach

Posted: Updated:

CHICAGO (AP) - Officials have notified former students of the University of Illinois at Chicago College of Business Administration that personal information - including Social Security numbers - were found on a publicly accessible website from 2002.

School authorities say two documents were available - a class roster from a Special Topics in Accounting course and the advising list for all junior and senior accounting majors, both from spring 2002.

Staff members removed the files from the website and officials say the campus has received no reports of improper use.

The school no longer identifies students by Social Security number.

People who are affected may contact the Federal Trade Commission in Chicago and also access a free annual credit report from major credit agencies.
