Search continues for man who went missing on Lake St. Clair

Posted: Updated:
(WJBK) - The Macomb County Sheriff's Department is continuing the search for a 33-year-old man from Shelby Township who went missing in the waters of Lake St. Clair Monday night.

Witnesses say Julian Martinez jumped into the water, near the mouth of the Clinton River, in attempts to rescue a woman who went overboard.

"Just leaned over the side of the boat and one of the other young ladies on the boat just, all in fun and games, just pushed her in and didn't realize she couldn't swim that well," says Steve Skalecki, who was on the boat.

She is now safe but Martinez has not resurfaced.

"He didn't struggle, he just, he sank," Skalecki says.

Loved ones gathered along the water Wednesday evening to pray for and remember Martinez.

The Macomb County Sheriff's dive team has been working hard to find Martinez but say, sadly, that their efforts are now focused on recovery. Crews are expected to resume the search Thursday morning.
