The Beagle Freedom Project, a non-profit, worked out a deal with an unidentified lab somewhere near the Texas-Mexico border to release the animals to them, so they could find loving forever homes.

The rescuers say the lab used the beagles to test shampoo, makeup and cleaning supplies.

Those involved in the non-profit says the abuse the animals go through in the lab is very upsetting.

"They have substances poured into their eyes, into their ears, sometimes they have parts of their bodies and things implanted inside them," said Shannon Keith with the Beagle Freedom Project."They're very scared, but quite often after a few minutes, suddenly their instinct kicks in. And they're like, whoa wait a minute, I smell things, I see things, I'm a dog."

One dog is already getting adopted while the others will live in foster homes while they wait for new owners.

"It angers me when I see that stuff and when I hear about the things that he's possibly gone through," said Martin Palmer, who adopted a Beagle.

Palmer describes his newly adopted dog as very loving.
