ELGIN, Ill. (Sun-Times Media Wire) -

A person was fatally struck by a Metra train in northwest suburban Elgin Tuesday afternoon.

Train No. 2242 hit the pedestrian in a wooded area between the Big Timber Road and Elgin stations sometime after 3:22 p.m., Metra spokeswoman Meg Reile said.

Further details about the person killed were not yet known Tuesday evening.

That train, which was scheduled to arrive in Chicago at 4:49 p.m., remains stopped, according to Metra. It was scheduled to make an outbound trip as train No. 2235, leaving Chicago at 5:05 p.m., but that trip was been canceled.

Trains are moving again as of about 5:50 p.m., but with delays between 10 and 25 minutes, according to Metra’s website.
