CHICAGO (Sun-Times Media Wire) -

A woman was killed and at least seven other people were shot in Chicago in a four-hour period Monday, just one day after a holiday weekend that saw 13 people killed and 58 others wounded.

At 7:05 p.m. the 19-year-old woman was walking with a group in the 2200 block of West 69th Street when someone rode up on a bicycle and opened fire, shooting her in the back, police said.

She was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where she was pronounced dead at 10:11 p.m., according to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office. Her name was withheld Tuesday morning pending notification of family members.

The most recent nonfatal shooting happened in the Washington Heights neighborhood on the South Side, where a 19-year-old man was wounded in a drive-by attack.

He was standing on a sidewalk with a group of people about 10:40 p.m. in the 1000 block of West 89th Street when a dark gray sedan pulled up and fired shots, striking him in the buttocks, police said. He was taken to Avocate Christ Medical Center in “stable” condition.

About 10 minutes earlier, a man and teen girl were shot in the West Englewood neighborhood in another drive-by.

The two were walking on the sidewalk in the 6100 block of South Throop Street about 10:30 p.m. when a dark-colored van drove past and someone inside opened fire, police said.

The 16-year-old girl was shot in the leg and listed in “stable” condition at Holy Cross Hospital, police said. The man, 21, was shot in the lower back, hip and ear. He was taken to John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County in critical condition.

About 9:55 p.m., a man was shot in the West Garfield Park neighborhood. Someone walked up to the 29-year-old in the 4400 block of West Gladys Avenue and shot him in the foot, police said. He was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in good condition.

Less than an hour earlier, a 22-year-old man was wounded in a possible drive-by shooting. The man was shot in the leg about 9 p.m. in the 800 block of East 74th Street, police said. He was taken in “stable” condition to Jackson Park Hospital and Medical Center.

Monday evening’s first shooting happened in Englewood, where two men, 23 and 26, were shot while playing basketball about 6:40 p.m. in the 300 block of West 57th Street, police said.

The 26-year-old was shot in the left forearm and was taken in good condition to Saint Bernard Hospital and Health Care Center, and the 23-year-old was treated at the scene for a graze wound to his right thigh, police said.
