HAMMOND, Ind. (FOX 32 News) -

The superintendent of the Hammond, Indiana public school system was assaulted and robbed Monday night at his home during the severe weather storms.

Hammond police confirmed that Walter Watkins was the victim of a break-in, assault and robbery. Investigators believe the suspect broke into his home between 9:30 p.m. Monday and 10 a.m. Tuesday.

Watkins was found by his sister Tuesday morning suffering from head injuries. His car, which is owned by the school district, was stolen as well. The license plate for that vehicle is 20680.
