Locals asked to reduce water use after severe storms

Posted: Updated:
CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -

The Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago is asking residents to minimize water use in their homes after the storms that swept through the area Monday night.

Minimizing water use reduces the amount of water flowing into the sewer system during rain events.

When Chicago area waterway levels are higher than Lake Michigan, the MWRD opens control structures to move as much water as possible out of the system. The gates at Wilmette and on the Chicago River downtown were opened and later closed Tuesday morning.
