GARY, Ind. (Sun-Times Media Wire) -

One man was killed and six other people were wounded in four separate shootings in Gary, Ind. on Saturday and Sunday, according to police.

The fatal shooting was discovered about 8:35 a.m. Sunday, when officers called to investigate a suspicious vehicle in an alley in the 400 block of Fillmore Street found a 22-year-old man unresponsive inside, Gary police spokeswoman Gabrielle King said.

Jaque Jones, who lived in the same block, was dead at the scene, the Lake County Ind. Coroner’s office said. He suffered a gunshot wound to the head and his death was ruled a homicide.

The weekend’s first shooting happened at 2:33 a.m. Saturday, when two men were shot in the 1700 block of Grant Street, police said. Police responded to a call of a man with a gun and found several people outside.

Shots were fired when officers tried to disburse the crowd, police said. Two men, a 26-year-old and a 24-year-old, were shot and taken to a hospital.

About 11 p.m. Saturday, a man and a woman were riding in a vehicle in the 400 block of Roosevelt Street when someone they knew fired roughly six shots at the vehicle, police said. Both were shot, and made it on their own to a nearby emergency room.

Two other people were shot about 11:20 p.m. Sunday in the 700 block of Ralston Street, police said. An 18-year-old standing next to a vehicle, and a 38-year-old sitting in the vehicle were both struck by gunfire and were taken to a local hospital.

Anyone with information on the homicide is asked to contact Det. Alex Jones at (219) 881-7477.
