Alvarez to announce human trafficking charges

Posted: Updated:
CHICAGO (Associated Press) - Cook County prosecutors say they've charged several people in an investigation involving human trafficking.

State's Attorney Anita Alvarez says she'll hold a news conference Monday afternoon to announce guilty pleas by multiple defendants. She says 10 current or former gang members were charged as a result of a 2011 wiretap investigation that targeted people who forced young women and children into prostitution.

Alvarez says some of the victims were as young as 13. She says they had to sell sex on the street or through the Internet.

Alvarez says local law enforcement used court-ordered wiretaps to intercept phone conversations.
