CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -
There are a number of big parties and festivals taking place around the Chicago area this weekend.
Old St. Pat's Church, Chicago's oldest public building, will host the 30th annual World's Largest Block Party this weekend. The event is a party for a good cause, with proceeds going towards the mission and outreach activities at Old St. Pat's.
The World's Largest Block Party takes place Friday and Saturday in the West Loop and features a number of live musical performers, including Third Eye Blind.
Friday morning, bands and organizers were out early preparing for the event.
The event started out, 30 years ago, as a block party to get to know people from areas all over the city and suburbs. Since then, it has grown and been called 'The World's Largest Block Party, a place to meet your mate."
According to the Pastor of Old St. Pat's at least 105 couples have met at the event and then got married.
Tickets to the event are $40 in advance and $45 at the gate if the event is not sold out. Event-goers can also buy a two-day ticket for $75. The price of tickets includes four free beverages.
The event is the church's largest fundraising event of the year. Proceeds benefit the artistic enhancement of Old St. patrick's Church, fund the Center for Social Concerns building and a new school on the church's campus.
