PALATINE, Ill. (Sun-Times Media Wire) -

A townhouse fire in northwest suburban Palatine left two units uninhabitable Thursday afternoon.

Emergency crews were called about a “wall smoking” in a townhouse in the 2100 block of Heather Lane about 2:25 p.m., according to a statement from the Palatine Fire Department.

Crews forced entry into the unit and found a fire burning inside the wall, fire officials said. Firefighters pulled a hose line into the home and opened the wall and ceiling to expose the hidden fire.

Three other units were affected by fire and smoke, and two units were left uninhabitable by the blaze, the fire department said.

No occupants were inside the building at the time of the fire, and one dog was safely removed by firefighters, according to the statement.

The fire was under control by 2:52 p.m., according to the statement. No injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire remained under investigation Thursday night.
