LOCKPORT, Ill. (Sun-Times Media Wire) -

A strong thunderstorm was spotted near southwest suburban Lockport on Wednesday afternoon, and other scattered storms are possible closer to Chicago.

A few minutes before 2 p.m., a strong thunderstorm was spotted near Lockport, moving southeast at 30 mph, according to the National Weather Service.

Dime-size hail, winds up to 45 mph and occasional lightning are possible, according to the weather service.

More storms will threaten the area Wednesday, according to the weather service. A few storms may be severe and isolated, and brief funnel clouds are possible.

Dense fog near the Lake Michigan shore is expected to push further inland this evening.

Additional storms could hammer the area throughout the weekend — the weather service says there will be “periodic chances” of storms over the next few days.
