CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -

A cat that was being tortured by Englewood kids was rescued Saturday by a PAWS volunteer, according to a report by DNAinfo Chicago.

Pilsen resident and PAWS volunteer Georgie Black, 59, came to the rescue after receiving a call from a concerned Englewood resident about an injured cat. The Englewood resident told DNAinfo Chicago that teenagers attached firecrackers to the animal and lit them.

The cat reportedly suffered a broken leg and many burn wounds. Black offered to take the cat home for recovery. She named it Nikki.
