LAKE FOREST, Ill. (Sun-Times media Wire) -

Police are still investigating the death of a man who was struck and killed by a northbound freight train near the Lake Forest Metra station Thursday night.

All Metra trains on the Milwaukee District/North Line were temporarily halted after the person was struck by a freight train, according to Metra officials.

The person, whose age and gender were not immediately known, was struck by a Canadian Pacific freight train about 7:50 p.m. at the Lake Forest station, said Metra spokesman Michael Gillis.

The unidentified man was dead when first responders arrived, according to Lake Forest police.

He was crossing the tracks at the pedestrian crossing about 50 yards north of the station when he was struck.

He had been dropped off in the station commuter parking lot by a co-worker, who was still in the lot when the train stopped after striking the pedestrian, police said.

Metra Police are handling the case and did not immediately return calls for information Friday morning.

The Lake County Coroner has not yet released the name of the victim.

All Metra trains on the Milwaukee District / North Line were temporarily halted after the incident, Metra officials said. Service resumed around 9:30 p.m.
