CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -

The state Department of Children and Family Services is investigating the death of a 2-year-old boy Wednesday on the West Side.

Mickel Brown’s stepfather put him down for a nap Wednesday and later noticed he wasn’t breathing, according to police and the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office.

Mickel, of the 1400 block of South Kedvale Avenue, was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital where he was pronounced dead at 6:32 p.m., according to the medical examiner’s office.

DCFS is investigating allegations of abuse and neglect in connection with the boy’s death, according to spokeswoman Veronica Resa. The agency has not had prior contact with the family.

An autopsy Thursday was inconclusive pending further studies, according to the medical examiner’s office.
