Police pursuit ends in deadly crash in Brownstown Twp.

Posted: Updated:
BROWNSTOWN TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WJBK) - "The driver was ejected out of the vehicle and the passenger was ejected out of the vehicle of the black car," a witness says.

She saw the aftermath of a police chase that left one person dead and as many as five others injured.

"It sounded like a big boom," she says.

It ended  around 11:15 Sunday night on Allen Road between Vreeland and Gibraltar roads in Brownstown Township. But police say it began in Woodhaven on Allen Road just north of Van Horn Road where an officer made a traffic stop.

The driver of the suspect vehicle, a black Hyundai, sped down Allen Road through two red lights.

He lost police and control of his car. Attempting to pass a driver in front of him, he collided into a white minivan.

Witnesses say a mother her daughter and her brother were inside.

"In the minivan the driver had to have the jaws of life get her out," one witness says.

The driver is in fair but stable condition.

The witness also tells Fox 2's Randy Wimbley the driver's daughter is said on Facebook to have broken her neck and arm.

"The poor boy broke his leg, it looked like it, because he was hobbling over," she also remembers.

Sources tell Wimbley there's been a rash of Dyson vacuum thefts in Woodhaven. The officer who made the traffic stop spotted the pricey vacuums inside the car and the driver took off once he realized he had been made.

Police say the suspects may have been on a crime spree stealing vacuums from Meijer stores in Southgate and Lincoln Park.

The vacuums retail for as much as $600. Thieves steal then sell them on the cheap for a quick profit.

Woodhaven police say the driver of the suspect car died in the crash and the two people with him were injured.

No word yet on arrests. The investigation is ongoing.
