Company chooses interns through Intern Hunger Games

CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -

Times have changed.

With more professionals hitting the workplace and fewer jobs to go around, the search for an internship has become an intense, cut-throat experience.

Emmis Digital is a media company dealing in the mass reach of radio broadcasting -the perfect place for a young professional to start a career.

Which is exactly why, to get an internship here, you have to compete in the Intern Hunger Games.

Rory Foster is the director of digital media for Emmis Digital and the man behind “the Intern Games.”

Styled after “the Hunger Games,” potential interns compete against each other for one coveted spot.

Kelsey Halverson and Jake Bouvy are the Katniss and Peeta of Emmis Digital interns. They competed against each other by creating videos and using social media to push out the Emmis Digital name.

The number of interns withered from 25 to the final two.

And then... the plot twist: Just like in the Hunger Games, there were two survivors.

The out-of-the-box selection technique has been met with both admiration and criticism – but in the cut-throat world of business, that’s to be expected.

So until the next round of the intern hunger games… may the odds be ever in your favor!
