GREEN LINE: Businesses, developers prepare for busy future

Posted: Updated:
MINNEAPOLIS (KMSP) -

Final preparations are underway for the long-awaited commuter light rail trains that will connect Minneapolis and St. Paul along the Green Line, and that has many people looking to the future.

"It's been a long time coming, but within 48 hours, the Green Line will officially start running and businesses cannot wait," Ne Dao told Fox 9 News.

Dao, owner of the Hatien Market, said it's difficult to keep up with all the preparations for Saturday, but after 17 years in business, she's planning to celebrate the debut of the Green Line both in and outside of her store.

"We're going to sell some food and drinks," she explained. "We just want to be ourselves out there. People that will travel that day, they can check us out."

Metro Transit is also planning various celebrations and ribbon-cuttings at several stations; however, not every Minnesotan enjoys the change. Bus riders who will be on the rails soon have mixed reviews.

Additionally, a new group called East Metro Strong, which is funded by private companies and grants, is already looking toward further expansion -- and they hope to do it in a lot less time than it took to get the Green Line going.

Until then, however, Dao is relieved the Green Line is complete.

"It's going to be a change to see all the train traffic on Saturday," she predicted.

There's a big misconception about food vendors at the Minnesota State Fair. Many people think you can set up a booth, work 12 days and make a pile of cash. But it's not that easy. Aside from a lot of hard work, it also takes some luck.
