CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) - If you have children, you know summer vacation can be tough.

There are no school classes to keep their minds sharp, so what are you to do? Many parents will grab an educational toy to enhance learning. And the best part is, you're supporting a local company!

Learning Resources is a worldwide educational company headquartered in a north suburban Vernon Hills 215,000 square foot facility. The company was started by a Highland Park woman in a one-room office 30 years ago.

"Our concept is hands on learning. It is a proven, effective way to learn and goes back to the 1800s. We have taken the concept of experimental learning and turned it into 1,400 products," Rick Woldenberg said.

Today, their products are sold in popular stores like Target and Walmart and they sell more than 1,400 products to educators and consumers in 80 countries!

"We have always been focused on the international market. We want our message and teaching method to go across the globe," Woldenberg said.

Colors and textures are added to a simple stacking toy to teach sorting and math concepts to little ones. In other words, the toys are changing as society changes.

Learning Resources' success is evident by its hundreds of award-winning products and the millions of children, teachers and parents around the world who have enjoyed them over the years.

To commemorate their 30th anniversary, the company gave away their most popular toy- a cash register.

This weekend, parents who want their kids to learn over the summer cna attend a tent sale at the Vernon Hills factory.
