NEW YORK (AP) - A lawsuit is accusing former New York governor David Paterson of blocking efforts to expose corruption in order to get his father a seat on the Port Authority Board.

In court papers filed Monday, Brian Aryai, a former Treasury agent, says he and Paterson formed a construction-industry compliance firm in 2012. He says they were close to obtaining two contracts to monitor work on the Bayonne Bridge and security arrangements at PA-run facilities when Paterson "conspired" with the PA to get his father, Basil Paterson, named to its board. Gov. Andrew Cuomo named the elder Paterson to the board in May, 2013.

With Paterson on the board, the lawsuit says the PA decided not to award the company the contracts because of a conflict of interest.

A spokesman for Paterson denied the lawsuit's allegations. The Port Authority didn't immediately return a message seeking comment.

The lawsuit seeks unspecified damages.
