City faces lawsuit over former Children's Memorial Hospital site

CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -

A proposed project at the site of the old Children's Memorial Hospital building in Lincoln Park is getting new opposition.

The multi-million dollar proposed project would bring a high rise health club and retail stores to the area of Halsted Street and Fullerton and Lincoln Avenues.

Two community groups plan to file a lawsuit Monday, saying the project would be an eye sore in the neighborhood. The groups say the city council "improperly approved the plan."

According to Crain's Chicago Business, the lawsuit alleges “The height, proportions and scale, and density of uses permitted by (the rezoning) are significantly greater than exist elsewhere in the neighborhood and are therefore wholly inconsistent and out of character with neighborhood land uses."

The suit goes on to say the project does not fit in to the community.
