Evanston native wins big at Tony Awards

EVANSTON, Ill. (FOX 32 News) -

The best and the brightest Broadway has to offer were gathered together Sunday night to honor amazing feats in plays and musicals.

While some big names, like Neil Patrick Harris and Bryan Cranston, took home statues, an Evanston native also won big! Jessie Mueller won Best Actress in a Musical for her role as Carole King in "Beautiful: The Carole King Musical."

Mueller graced the stages of Chicago for years before making the leap to Broadway just two seasons ago.

"I forgot to thank everybody in Chicago," said Mueller in an interview with the Chicago Tribune late Sunday night. "This feels wonderful. It's like the calm after the storm frankly. Now we get to celebrate!"

FOX 32 would like to wish her a very heart felt congratulations.
