CHICAGO (Sun-Times Media Wire) - A West Side man has been charged with fatally shooting a man during an argument Tuesday afternoon in the West Side North Lawndale neighborhood.

Jerome Lofton, 32, was charged with first-degree murder, according to Chicago Police.

Lofton got into an argument with 21-year-old Darrien Jordan in the 3900 block of West Grenshaw Street about 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, and shot him in the abdomen, police said.

Jordan, who lived on the same block on which he was shot, was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital where he was pronounced dead at 4 p.m., the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office said.

A long-time friend said Jordan was “planning a big change in his life.”

Savoia Johnson told Homicide Watch Chicago that Jordan didn’t deal drugs, wasn’t involved in gang activity and was shot because of a “crazy argument.”

Court information for Lofton, of the 3700 block of West Polk Street, was not immediately available.
