CPD Supt. Garry McCarthy hospitalized for artery blockage

CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) - FOX 32 News has learned Chicago Police Superintendent Garry McCarthy is in the hospital.

According to Adam Collins with the Chicago Police Department, McCarthy admitted himself to Northwestern Hospital early Thursday morning and underwent a common procedure for artery blockage.

Officials say McCarthy's procedure went well. McCarthy had a 100 percent blockage in one artery and 80 percent in another, a source said.

"The Superintendent appreciates everyone's well wishes and is looking forward to being back on patrol with his fellow police officers very soon," a statement from the Chicago Police Dept. read.

McCarthy is expected to day in the hospital for several days while he recovers. The First Deputy will be command during the duration of McCarthy's absence. Stay tuned to MyFOXChicago.com for updates.
