Hidden cash craze hits Chicago

Posted: Updated:
CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -

The hidden cash craze that began in California may have arrived in Chicago.

A message posted over the weekend on Twitter included #hiddencashchi and is playing the game of hide and seek with cold, hard cash.

A wealthy real estate broker has been dropping cash in cities around the country to encourage people to help out others in need.

Rumors were flying Monday morning about where the cash will be hidden. According to the @HiddencashChi Twitter account, the hidden cash was in Humboldt Park.

The account retweeted a photo of the person who apparently found the cash. The person was holding up a sign that read, "Please take this gift and pay it forward. We can make a difference."

FOX 32's Jake Hamilton spoke with the woman who found the envelope with $60 inside Monday morning.

"I saw a pinwheel stick in the ground and a little piece of white paper sticking out under the statue. So I ran over and grabbed it!" she said.

The account Tweeted that more envelopes will be dropped in the city throughout the day.
