DETROIT, Mich. (WJBK) - Nearly a week after a 17 year old Detroit student says she was attacked on her way to school, she's speaking out about the frightening ordeal. Thankfully, she got away. But, the suspect who grabbed her and tried to pull her to the ground is still on the loose.

The girl says she was making her way to the bus stop like she does every day, taking the same short cut through the grounds of the old Cooley High School when something didn't look or feel right. Last Wednesday, she says she spotted a man roaming in the area. So the teen changed her route to Fenkell and Greenfield but says she was attacked out of nowhere when she looked down at her phone to read a text message.

"I tried to run around him," the girl tells Fox 2. "But he grabbed my hair and pulled me again. He was trying to make me weak."

The teen struggled and was able to break free. She says she used her sharp nails to poke the suspect in the eye. The teen eventually made it to school where she told her teachers about the close encounter. Her family has since filed a police report but so far, no arrests. They hope sharing the story will make other girls more alert.

"She's not the only one who walks to school that way," the girl's mother told Fox 2. "I want this person to be caught. He tried to attack her and rape her. Who knows who else he may have done this to."

The suspect is described as 6'1" with dark skin, a thin build, and a scar on his face. He was wearing a hoodie and ripped jeans at the time. if you have any information, call Detroit Police.
