CHICAGO (Sun-Times Media Wire) - An armed robber hugged a clerk after holding up a Lincoln Park neighborhood apparel store at gunpoint Thursday evening, according to police.

The robbery happened about 6:05 p.m. at a store in the 1100 block of West Webster Avenue, police said.

The man entered the store as if he were shopping, and placed items on the counter, police said. He left, and when he returned he displayed a black handgun and demanded the register be opened.

He took cash and the merchandise before leaving police said. No one was hurt.

According to a police report, the man left the first time saying he was going to his car to get money for the hats and shirts, then came back with the gun.

When the clerk asked the man if he needed the money, the suspect replied that he did, and then hugged the clerk before leaving the store, the report said.

No one is in custody as of Friday afternoon.
