14 parked vehicles set on fire in Englewood

CHICAGO (Sun-Times Media Wire) - Fourteen vehicles were set on fire in the South Side Englewood neighborhood during a two-and-a-half hour period Wednesday morning.

Between 4:20 a.m. and 7 a.m., someone got into the parked vehicles and used an open flame to ignite materials available inside, police News Affairs Officer Thomas Sweeney said.

No one was hurt, and it does not appear that any accelerants were used, Sweeney said.

The fires occurred in the:

— 7100 block of South Wood Street;

— 6800 block of South Marshfield Avenue;

— 6600 block of South Laflin Street;

— 1400 block of West Marquette Road;

— 6700 block of South May Street;

— 7000 block of South Eggleston Avenue;

— 7100 block of South Eggleston Avenue;

— 1700 block of West 71st Street.

The police Bomb & Arson Unit is investigating the fires, and police have not made any arrests as of Wednesday evening.
