EVERGREEN PARK, Ill. (Sun-Times Media Wire) - A man was struck by a train early Tuesday in southwest suburban Evergreen Park.

A female walking near the CSX railroad tracks in the 8700 block of South Rockwell Avenue spotted the man laying in the southbound tracks about 12:45 a.m., according to Evergreen Park police.

She saw a northbound train heading toward him and yelled for the man to get off the tracks, police said. When she got closer, she saw he was injured and dragged him away from the tracks.

She knocked on a neighbor’s door and asked them to call an ambulance, police said.

The man was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, police said. On the way to the hospital, he told paramedics he was struck by a train that he did not see coming.

According to a statement from CSX spokeswoman Carla Groleau, the rail agency is cooperating fully with police though “at this time, the injuries have not been confirmed to be train-related.”

Information about the man’s condition was not immediately available Tuesday.
