SNELLVILLE, Ga. - A new veterans monument was unveiled Saturday in Snellville.

Frustration has surrounded the event after thieves snatched a box full of tiles bearing the names of some of the men and women set to be honored.

Officials said nine of the 379 tiles were stolen.

But many veterans and their families who attended said last week’s theft was a distant memory, and Saturday was all about enjoying the moment.

Dozens of Snellville veterans, families and grateful citizens came together to honor those who have served.

After three years of planning and fundraising, the memorial wall outside of Snellville City Hall now stands as a place of remembrance.

The Snellville Memorial will continue to grow throughout the years.

Officials said there is still room for an additional 300 tiles.
