Woman bites officer during traffic stop

LAMAR COUNTY, Ga. - A Griffin woman is behind bars after violent struggle with a Lamar County Sheriff's deputy.

Authorities said that Joy Lynn Day, 39, of Griffin, attacked Major Leslie Holmes following a traffic stop on Old U.S. Highway 41 near Brown Springs Road.

Deputies said that Day told Holmes she was HIV positive shortly before biting her arm and trying to get wrestle her gun away. Holmes opened fire, striking Day.

Both women were treated for non-life threatening wounds

Day faces multiple charges including aggravated assault against an officer and drug possession.
