ATLANTA (AP) - A former technology director for Atlanta's public schools is set to be sentenced after prosecutors say he accepted bribes from a company in exchange for a lucrative district contract.

Prosecutors say Jerome Oberlton and another man, Mahendra Patel, orchestrated the kickback scheme and ultimately received about $60,000 in bribes after a Detroit-based firm got a $780,000 computer project contract with the school district.

Oberlton was chief information officer for the school district from 2004 to 2007.

Both Patel and Oberlton pleaded guilty after reaching agreements with prosecutors.

Oberlton is scheduled to be sentenced Thursday. Prosecutors have recommended he serve three years and five months in prison, pay $735,130 in restitution and perform 1,000 hours of community service.
