ELGIN, Ill. (Sun-Times Media Wire) -

Elgin police called out tactical response units and the department’s armored vehicle on May 16 when two men locked themselves into the bathrooms at Biggers Mazda at 1320 Chicago St., the Elgin Courier-News is reporting.

One of the men was wearing only his underwear, police said.

Officers were called to the dealership about 1:30 p.m. One man was hiding in the men’s room and the other in the ladies’ bathroom. They came out when officers arrived and told officials they had fled to the business after being robbed at a cousin’s nearby home. There, the men told police, five unknown men came in with guns, pistol-whipped one of the two, and robbed them. Police drove the pair to an address on Chicago Street where they said the incident occurred.

Police set up a perimeter, called in the tactical team, and deployed a robot into the house to search for the assailants, police said. Later, members of the tactical team searched the house but found no one.

An employee of the auto dealership told police the two had come in yelling for help and for someone to call police and that one of the two was bleeding when they arrived.
