ELGIN, Ill. (Sun-Times Media Wire) -

An Elgin woman has been charged in connection with the November 2013 death of an Elgin resident, the Elgin Courier-News is reporting.

Chante Butler was charged with aggravated battery in a public place and unlawful restraint following an investigation by Elgin police into the death of T’Keyah Marshall, 19, of the 400 block of Center Street, according to a statement from Elgin police.

In the morning of Nov. 8, Elgin police and fire departments responded to a call at the Center Street residence where Marshall was found unresponsive in her bed by her family, according to the post. She was transported to Presence Saint Joseph Hospital in Elgin, where she was pronounced dead.

During the death investigation, detectives learned that on Nov. 4, Marshall was involved in a verbal argument with Butler that turned into a physical altercation in the 300 block of Hill Avenue, the post said. During the altercation Butler, pushed Marshall to the ground and kicked and punched her, not allowing Marshall to get up, police said.

On May 1, a warrant was issued for Butler and she turned herself into the Elgin Police Department on Wednesday and appeared in Kane County bond call. Butler is being held in Kane County jail. Bail was set at $150,000.
