CHICAGO (Sun-Times Media Wire) -

A 14-year-old boy was shot to death Thursday night in the Chicago Lawn neighborhood on the Southwest Side.

About 10:15 p.m., officers who were responding to a call of shots fired found Kevin Diaz lying lying unresponsive on the sidewalk in the 6400 block of South Francisco Avenue, according to police and the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office.

Diaz, who lived two blocks north of where he was shot to death, was pronounced dead less than a half hour later, authorities said.

The shooting is believed to be gang-related, police said.
