CHICAGO (Sun-Times Media Wire) -

Authorities are offering a $1,000 reward to help solve the murder of a man stabbed to death in his Southwest Side home last year.

Ismael Rangel, 38, was found fatally stabbed on Sept. 10, 2013, at his apartment in the 6100 block of South Kolmar Avenue, authorities said.

Police found him unresponsive when they arrived at the home about 10:50 a.m., police said at the time.

Witnesses say they heard an altercation in his apartment in the days before the murder, on Sept. 6, Cook County Crime Stoppers said in a release.

“We need the community to help us identify the person responsible and why this murder occurred,” said George McDade, chairman of Cook County Crime Stoppers.

Anyone who provides a tip that leads to an arrest in the case is eligible for a $1,000 reward, the release said.

Anyone with information on the murder is asked to contact Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-800-535-7867 or text a tip to 274637 with the word CPD.
