Man upset Detroit police were seen letting graffiti taggers go

DETROIT (WJBK) - A building owner in Detroit says he's lost count of how many times his building has been vandalized with graffiti tags.

Scott has since set up security cameras at his property. He says when he was reviewing the footage one day he saw his building being tagged when all of a sudden the police showed up.

He says, though, he saw an officer let the guys go without even giving them a ticket.

"They should have at least arrested the guys and given me the opportunity to prosecute. They didn't even do that," says Scott.

A spokesperson with the Detroit Police Department says they will look into the incident, but say nothing may change. The spokesperson says no one gets arrested for tagging so the prosecution Scott was seeking is not available. What someone caught tagging may get is an environmental ticket, but only if the officer has been trained to do so.
