Football fans can own a piece of Fighting Irish history

CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) - The University of Notre Dame is offering football fans the chance to own a piece of history.

Last month, Notre Dame vice president and athletics director Jack Swarbrick announced turf will be installed in replacement of the real grass for the 2014 football season. As a result, the natural grass will be removed.

Many fans said the natural grass has a sentimental value. In response, for a limited time only, the university if offering Fighting Irish fans the chance to purchase a 2x5 foot piece of grass from historic Notre Dame Stadium.

Each section of grass costs $149.95. The cost includes the two-day shipping fee and a certificate of authenticity.

The grass will be removed by Tuesday and shipped Wednesday through Friday.
