Chicago girl finishes internship under Obama Administration

CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -

A Chicago girl is home after spending a semester in the White House.

Twenty-year-old Shamiah Curry spent the spring semester of her junior year in college interning at the White House. She was one of more than 120 college students selected to intern under the Obama Administration.

Curry almost missed out on the opportunity because the initial acceptance email filtered to her spam mail. She said the president and first lady shared words of wisdom she'll remember for life.

“They talked a lot about their family, they talked about how being there for their daughters is very important and how being parents has really influenced how they navigate this country, and also they talked about how we should always be humble and remain public servants, so it was a very life changing conversation,” Curry added.

Curry also said she would like to one day be a superintendent of a school district. She said she owes her white house experience to her parents who encouraged her to apply again after she missed the first acceptance email.
